Biological Sciences Series 0401
Positions manage, supervise, lead, or perform research and development in biology, agriculture or natural resource management. This series will also cover subcategorized and specialized degrees ( e.g. Biochemistry, Ecology, Zoology etc..) not specifically covered such as Microbiology and Bio-engineering. This series is sometimes used to designate a position, which does not require a particular biological specialty, but requires general knowledge of the broad life science field with ability to manage personnel within it.
Microbiology Series 0403
Positions are related to the broad field of Microbiology, which is the study of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, archaea, fungi and protozoa. This series covers positions that manage, supervise, lead, or perform professional, research, or scientific work that involves studying the characteristics and life processes of microorganisms, their interrelationships with other living forms, and their reactions to the environment. This series can encompass degrees beyond microbiology that directly relate to the fundamental research on these organisms including specialized forms of the following: biochemistry, physiology, cell biology, ecology, evolution and clinical aspects of microorganisms, including the host response to these agents.
Biological Science Technician Series 0404
Positions require a practical knowledge of the methods and techniques of one or more of the biological or agricultural sciences. Biological science technicians provide practical technical support to production, research, operations, or program administration efforts in laboratories and field. Qualification for this series can possibly be met with appropriate associates’ degrees or technologies degrees that normally fail to qualify applicant for Biological Science 401 series.
